The role of joint control in teaching listener responding to children with autism and other developmental disabilities

•We taught listener responding to children with autism.•The procedures implemented were derived from the analysis of joint control.•We measured accurate selection responses to trained and novel stimulus sets.•Accurate listener responses increased with trained and novel stimuli after training.•The value of the analysis of joint control for language training is discussed.
