Abstract
•Extended napping and no naps duration were associated with lower cognitive functioning scores at baseline.•No napping and extended napping at baseline were significantly associated with subsequent global cognitive decline.•In the longitudinal study, extended napping showed a significant association with the decline in episodic memory as well as mental status.
