Frailty defined by 19 items as a predictor of short-term functional recovery in patients with hip fracture

•There is limited literature about frailty among geriatric hip fracture patients.•Nineteen items modified frailty index (mFI) was significantly associated with functional recovery in patients with hip fracture.•Evaluation of frailty by a simple method is useful for identifying hip fracture patients with high risks of poor clinical outcomes.
