Abstract
•NaOH with 1.45molL−1 was produced with a 80.8% current efficiency at a low current density.•A satisfactory purity of 96.5% for NaOH and a glyphosate recovery of 98.2% were achieved.•Overall CO2 balance is positive when employing electricity from renewable sources in BMED.
