Effect of PMMA addition on the solution crystallization of the alpha and beta phases of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)

This study determined the effect of PMMA addition on the crystalline forms (alpha and beta phases) of PVDF, crystallized from solution. The changes in the content of the two phases due to addition of different concentrations of PMMA at different crystallization temperatures were detected by in spectroscopy. DSC analysis revealed that the melting temperature for both phases and the crystallization temperature of the alpha-phase decreased slowly with the increase of PMMA concentration. It was also observed that small concentrations of PMMA (10 and 15 wt%) favoured the beta-phase crystallization.
