•Repeated-dose liver micronucleus assay detected the genotoxicity of 2,4-DNT.•Micronucleated hepatocytes increase dose- and administration number-dependently.•2,4-DNT did not induce micronucleated immature erythrocytes.•Liver micronucleus assay can be integrated into repeated-dose toxicity studies.
