Soil ecosystem services and land use in the rapidly changing Orinoco River Basin of Colombia

•In Colombian Orinoco, large scale commercial cropping systems are rapidly expanding.•Soil ecosystem services and macrofauna were evaluated using synthetic indicators.•All indicators were correlated except for hydrological functions and macrofauna.•Each landuse increased at least one ecosystem service in comparison with savanna.•Sustainable agricultural will require careful design of landscape mosaics.
