Clearcutting and high severity wildfire have comparable effects on growth of direct-seeded interior Douglas-fir

•Compared growth of direct-seeded Douglas-fir in wildfire versus harvesting sites.•High Severity Burn seedlings had best overall growth performance.•Foliar nitrogen concentrations were above critical levels in disturbed treatments.•Clearcut harvesting with screefing had comparable growth to High Severity Burn.
