Abstract
A novel pre-column derivatisation reagent, 2,5-Dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride (DMOSC), for determination of the secondary amine glyphosate by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been described. Optimisation of derivatisation conditions showed that DMOSC had high chemical activity and 10min was enough to complete the reaction at 35(degrees)C and in pH10.0 borate buffer. Derivatisation with DMOSC is faster, and the lower temperature can be processed more easily than in cases of some other proposals, combined with UV detectors. The quantification was performed by liquid chromatography after a separation on a C-18 column. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of reproducibility obtained under optimum derivatisation conditions was 0.86%. The accuracy for all samples ranged from 97% to 104% and the intra- and inter-day precision values were 0.83% and 1.25%, respectively. The linearity relation coefficient of the method was 0.9990 over a range of 5-100gmL(-1) of glyphosate and the limit of detection (LOD) for glyphosate was 0.067gmL(-1).
