Conversations about analgesics in the emergency department: A qualitative study.

•We qualitatively assess conversations about analgesics in the Emergency Department.•We examine the speakers, content and tone of these conversations.•The physician directs the majority of the conversation.•The most frequently covered topic was the details of medication administration.•Although rare, disagreements between doctor and patient about medicines did occur.
