•Body mass index (BMI) and autonomic functions were investigated in Parkinson's disease.•Low coefficient of variation of the R–R interval was associated with BMI increase.•Abnormal findings of cardiac MIBG scintigraphy was also associated with BMI increase.•Autonomic dysfunction and BMI increase were associated with each other.
