Prospects of a new antistaphylococcal drug batumin revealed by molecular docking and analysis of the complete genome sequence of the batumin-producer Pseudomonas batumici UCM B-321

•Batumin acts similarly to mupirocin by targeting aminoacyl tRNA synthetases.•The genome of the batumin-producing strain Pseudomonas batumici was sequenced.•The batumin operon was horizontally acquired together with batG and leuRS paralogues.•The latter genes presumably confer batumin resistance in P. batumici.•Dissimilar batumin/mupirocin resistance mechanisms allow improved MRSA therapy.
