Associations between parental hearing impairment and children's mental health: Results from the Nord-Trøndelag Health Study.

•Parent/child data were obtained from a population-based study that included audiometry.•Questionnaires also included self-reported hearing data.•Approximately 5000 mother–child dyads and 4100 father–child dyads were included.•Severe maternal hearing loss was associated with significantly higher levels of adolescent distress.•Paternal hearing loss was not significantly associated with adolescent distress.
