Abstract
•Current echocardiographic criteria to identify cirrhotic cardiomyopathy have low specificity.•In our population we found a prevalence of diastolic dysfunction of 26% using tissue Doppler imaging.•The presence of diastolic dysfunction (DDF) is not clearly associated with outcome.•Prognosis is determined primarily by the severity of liver disease.•Further studies are needed to evaluate the role of the DDF in the long-term prognosis of cirrhotic patients.
