Photodynamic inactivation of Candida albicans by a tetracationic tentacle porphyrin and its analogue without intrinsic charges in presence of fluconazole.

•Photodynamic activity of tentacle porphyrins was compared in Candida albicans cells.•These porphyrins efficiently produce photodynamic inactivation of Candida albicans.•Sublethal photoinactivation produced a reduction in the MIC of fluconazole.•Photoinactivation and fluconazole therapies were combined to eradicate yeast cells.
