•Photodynamic activity of tentacle porphyrins was compared in Candida albicans cells.•These porphyrins efficiently produce photodynamic inactivation of Candida albicans.•Sublethal photoinactivation produced a reduction in the MIC of fluconazole.•Photoinactivation and fluconazole therapies were combined to eradicate yeast cells.
