A newly isolated Pseudomonas putida S-1 strain for batch-mode-propanethiol degradation and continuous treatment of propanethiol-containing waste gas.

•A novel strain capable of effectively degrading 1-propanethiol (PT) was isolated.•Cells could be feasibly cultured in nutrition-rich media for PT degradation.•A possible pathway for PT degradation was proposed.•Pseudomonas putida S-1 could degrade mixed pollutants with diauxic growth.•Continuous removal of gaseous PT with or without isopropanol was demonstrated.
