Abstract
•We assessed mechanical properties and thickness of frontal and parietal bones.•Frontal bones were significantly stiffer and thicker than parietal bones.•Female parietal bones may have a uniform structure compared with male bones.•Female parietal bones at lateral sites were thicker than male bones.•Fracture load decreased with age probably due to the reduction of thickness.
