•No imaging marker for treatment response of spondylodiscitis (SD) has been proposed.•Volume changes of subcutaneous fluid collection (SFC) had significant correlation with changes of C-reactive protein (CRP).•SFC can be used as an imaging marker for treatment response of SD on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
