•The physical models for non-isothermal decomposition of BCHMX and its PBXs have been determined.•Their constant rate temperature profiles are predicted by obtained kinetic triplets.•The correlations of impact sensitivity with heat built-up time and extrapolated critical temperature are found.•The initial thermolysis pathways of BCHMX during fast heating under the effect of polymers are theoretically identified.
