•Cu–Met–phen denotes strong inhibition effect on phosphatase acid (AcP) activity.•Cu–Met–phen presents anti-thyroid activity being 106 times more active than Met.•Albumin interaction experiments indicate high affinity toward the complexes.•Calculated binding constants indicate reversible binding to the protein.
