High prevalence of fragility vertebral fractures in patients hospitalised in Internal Medicine Units. Results of the POINT (Prevalence of Osteoporosis in INTernal medicine) study.

•The study investigates prevalence of vertebral fractures (VFs) in Internal Medicine.•Fragility VFs of at least grade 1 are recognisable in around 50% of patients.•A VF of grade 2 or greater was found in 20.8% of patients.•79.7% of the VFs were observed in patients without known osteoporosis (OP).•Older age, COPD, and previous diagnosis of OP showed a significant association with VFs.
