Novel insights into the pathogenic importance, diagnosis and treatment of the rumen fluke (Calicophoron daubneyi) in cattle.

•Calicophoron daubneyi eggs were commonly found in feces from cattle in Belgium.•Rumen fluke burden was associated with a poor fecal consistency in autumn.•Rumen fluke burden can be estimated based on coprology (mini-FLOTAC).•Treatment with subcutaneously-administered closantel did not remove the infection.
