Development of a method to quantify clindamycin in vitreous humor of rabbits' eyes by UPLC-MS/MS: application to a comparative pharmacokinetic study and in vivo ocular biocompatibility evaluation.

•A simple, selective and sensitive UPLC–MS/MS method was developed and validated.•The method provides a LOQ of 10ngmL−1 allowing the quantification of clindamycin in the vitreous humor.•The drug administrated by intravitreal injections remained in the vitreous cavity for 2 weeks.•The clindamycin-loaded PLGA implant released the drug up to 6 weeks.•The implant showed to be biocompatible.
