•We found that IFN-β can significantly inhibit the severity of EAE disease.•IFN-β decreased the expressions of chemokines in CNS.•IFN-β decreased the infiltration of activated encephalitogenic T cells into CNS.•IFN-β reduced the CCL2/CCL5 induced T cells migration by inhibiting the p38-MAPK and ERK1/2 activation.
