•Inactive GSK3 is disturbed in astroglia and neurons of the spinal cord during EAE.•Loss of phospho-GSK3β radial glia and neurons coincides with astrogliosis in EAE.•Stem cell therapy revives inactive GSK3 in neurons but not in radial glia.•Corrected inactive GSK3β by stem cell therapy coincides with evoked Th2 response.•Inactive GSK3β is involved in immunomodulation after stem cell therapy.
