•Reevaluation and update of the TTC thresholds is proposed.•Deleting organophosphates within Cramer III dataset gives new Cramer III threshold.•A specific threshold for organohalogens is calculated.•A threshold for combined organophosphates and carbamates is calculated.•The thresholds derived are considered safe for long term oral exposure.
