RETROVIRUSES IN HUMAN CANCEROGENESIS

Retroviruses are viral agents which are natural and experimental inductors of leukemias and solid rumors among numerous animal species. In man, they are implicated as ethiological agents of a specific type of leukemia, adult-T cell leukemia. Thus is for retrovirus HTLV-I. Another retrovirus, HIV, implicated in AIDS is capable of leading to the formation of several types of opportunistic tumors, such as non Hodgkin lymphomas and Kaposi's sarcoma.
