Abstract
•Pacific Coast band-tailed pigeons were tested for trichomonad infection and disease.•Protozoa were genetically characterized at ITS1/5.8S/ITS2 and Fe-hydrogenase loci.•Trichomonas gallinae Fe-hydrogenase subtype A2 was the dominant pathogenic genotype.•Both T. gallinae and T. stableri were isolated at large trichomonosis outbreaks.
