Abstract
•We performed a nested case-control study linking healthcare utilization databases.•We investigated the effect of the duration of statins on the risk of dementia.•Long-term use of statins seems effective for the prevention of dementia.•Simvastatin and atorvastatin were both associated with a reduced risk of dementia.•No evidence was observed for fluvastatin and pravastatin.
