Tissue Nucleotides In Experimental Hydrocortisone Diabetes In Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs have been made diabetic by subcutaneous administration of hydrocortisone. Nucleotides and related compounds have been determined in liver, ery throcytes and pancreas of diabetic and normal animals by utilization of anion exchange chromatography and specific enzymatic assays. Changes in components of pancreas and erythrocytes were minor and of questionable significance. The decrease in uridine diphosphate glucose and uridine diphosphate Nacetylglucosamine in liver of diabetic animals was highly significant. The diabetic animals also showed an increased level of adenosine triphosphate in liver. (Endocrinology77: 467, 1965)
