Beta-amyloid peptides undergo regulated co-secretion with neuropeptide and catecholamine neurotransmitters.

•Co-secretion of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides with neurotransmitters from neuronal cells was studied.•Stimulation of regulated secretion resulted in the joint release of Aβ with neuropeptide and catecholamine neurotransmitters.•Aβ, neuropeptides, and catecholamine neurotransmitters are present together in dense core secretory vesicles (DCSV).•The DCSV organelle contains the APP processing machinery with β-and γ-secretases for production of Aβ peptides.•Endogenous Aβ undergoes co-secretion with neurotransmitters from the regulated secretory pathway utilized for neuronal activity-dependent secretion.
