Different levels of prenatal zinc and selenium had different effects on neonatal neurobehavioral development.

•A nonlinear relationship was observed between cord serum Zn and NBNA.•An invert U-shape was observed between cord serum Se and NBNA.•A threshold Zn of 794.3μg/L, and Se of 100μg/L were observed.•Of the 927 infants, 50% had a high level Zn (≥794.3μg/L).•The supplementation of Zn during pregnancy should be considered with caution.
