Durchlässige Grenze: Moleküle, in denen gesättigte ER2-Einheiten (E=C oder Si, R=elektronenschiebende Gruppe) zwischen zwei konjugierten π-Systemen eingeschoben sind, zeigen ähnliche elektronische und optische Eigenschaften wie kreuzkonjugierte Moleküle (siehe Bild). Diese Kreuz-Hyperkonjugation bildet eine Alternative zur Kreuzkonjugation beim Entwurf von Molekülen für Nanostrukturen und Materialien.
