Abstract
Through and through defects of the lateral nose are most commonly the sequella of exterpative procedures performed for the eradication of malignant processes involving the nose and midface area. Such surgical defects can often be managed primarily or secondarily with the use of advancement flaps and local rotational flaps, such as the nasolabial and forehead flaps. However, when such reconstructive options are not available in a particular patient as a result of previous surgery, other options must be explored when contemplating midface reconstruction in patients with lateral nasal defects. The goal of this report is to illustrate, via a case report, the utility of a newly devised myocutaneous upper eyelid flap for the reconstruction of large through and through lateral nasal defects. This rather novel technique proved to be a reliable surgical alternative for the reconstructive challenges posed by patients with recurrent carcinoma of the midface.
