Abstract
Antenna configurations with very low profile, suitable for smart and MIMO antenna systems were synthesized. The antennas are incorporated into novel EBG surfaces with nonidentical lattices which, when suitably designed, can focus the incident waves to pre-specified areas. Thus they can enhance the operating characteristics of antenna elements positioned inside these areas and also can increase the isolation between them. Theoretical analysis of the reflection mechanism, synthesis of the hybrid antenna element-nonuniform EBG lattices and theoretical prediction of their performance was made. All of them were validated with implementation and simulations which have shown that increment of the gain more than 3dB and also increment of isolation more than 10dB can be obtained.
