Range profile analysis of the buried 3-D dielectric object based on the EM numerical simulation

The cross-range profiles for the buried 3-D dielectric object are obtained by performing the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) on the wideband scattered field using a stepped frequency waveform (SFW). The 1-D HRRPs of the buried object are investigated with numerical solutions for the electric field integral equation (EFIE). The scattering response from the buried object is calculated accurately by the radiation of the induced currents inside the buried object based on the EM numerical simulation. The scattering centers of the dielectric target are well identified from the HRRPs. The peak amplitudes and locations of the range profiles could be understood and analyzed based on the knowledge of the scattering mechanisms. From the simulated range profiles, the buried depth and the size of the object could also be reconstructed.
