Abstract
A novel method and configuration for generating a calculable electromagnetic pulse is proposed. A half-bowtie antenna is placed on a ground plane. The bowtie antenna is excited by a picosecond order impulse train. At an edge of the ground plane, a perpendicular metal plate with an aperture is attached. The electromagnetic wave radiated from the antenna passes through the aperture of the metal plate. Using the waveform of the excited impulse, the electric field at a distance from the aperture is calculated by the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and a diffraction integral. The electric field is also measured by signal processing with the complex antenna factor (CAF) of a detecting wide-band antenna. The agreement of the calculated and measured waveforms shows that the proposed method and configuration is useful to generate a reference wave for electromagnetic pulse measurements
