摘要
Summary form only given. In commenting on the current status, a brief discussion is presented on some methodologies and models that have been employed in modeling radiation production and radiation transport in Z-pinch plasmas. A comparison is made between experimental data from a Titanium wire array and 1-D MHD radiation transport numerical simulation using CRE and LTE ionization dynamic models. In addition, a numerical simulation is carried out with the same MHD platform but with an LTE radiation diffusion model. The consequences that stem from the compromises and tradeoffs that result from the different approximations that are made are addressed. We will explore the role radiation plays in the dynamic evolution of a Z-pinch and inquire whether the magnitude of the emitted radiation is large enough to necessitate the need for a self-consistent radiation-hydrodynamic treatment.
