Abstract
This work is focused to calculate the dependence on wavelength of a very high concentration (geometrical concentration ratio highest than 1000 suns) system that illuminated the solar cell surface in a wide range of angles The study of the dependence on wavelength of the optical performance of photovoltaic concentrators is important for the cell design and optimization, because the spectrum of the light impinging on the cell though the concentrator could be significantly different than the sun light spectrum. The concentrator device (TIR-R) has been developed in the frame of the HAMLET E.U.'s project. The concentrator (TIR-R) has been calculated using the SMS design method. For the AM1.5D spectrum, a GaAs cell and the TIR-R design selected, the optical efficiency, acceptance angle and irradiance distribution performs correctly, very close to the previous monochromatic results.
