Abstract
The future installation of FTTB infrastructures could totally change the broadcasting television market thanks to the introduction of a wavelength channel dedicated to CATV Radio over Fibre (RoF). In this paper we report an experimental investigation on the optical transmission of the Italian digital terrestrial broadcast television (DVB-T) signal in Passive Optical Network (PON), analyzing the impact of the TV spectrum characteristics on the optical transmission and achieving transmission distances up to 40 km in G.652 links, upgradable to > 60 km. The investigation was carried out by adopting a Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) Mach-Zehnder (MZ) modulator. Various critical points are examined, especially regarding on Harmonic, Intermodulation and Cross-modulation Distortions (HD, IMD, X-MOD) due to intrinsic nonlinear Power-Voltage (P-V) response of Mach-Zehnder modulator.
