•The prevalence of binge drinking was high among men who have sex with men (MSM) in this sample.•Among MSM who binged, 22% reported 10+ episodes in the past month.•MSM who binge drank were more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors.•The likelihood of risky sexual behaviors went up with increased frequency of binging.
