Maximum power point tracking for photovoltaic generation based on fuzzy sliding mode control

To track the sun light quickly and accurately, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method for photovoltaic (PV) systems was studies. A MPPT method by using fuzzy sliding mode control was presented for a PV system, and its theoretical analysis and designed principle were described in detail. The designed control method regulated the output voltage of a converter and maximized the power generated by the PV array. The switching function of PV array was designed based on sliding mode theory, and then the sliding mode control variable was adjusted by the fuzzy control law. Obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed MPPT method. It can not only rapidly track the changes of the external environment and also can effectively eliminate the oscillation of system around the MPP. The system can reach the MPP rapidly, which is faster about 8 s than that of traditional sliding mode control method. The system has a good dynamic and steady-state performance near the MPP.
