Research On High Current Withstand Capability Of Surge Arrester Used In Distribution Power System

In domestic, the polymer surge arrester is generally used in distribution power system. According to the standard, it should pass 65kA high current impulse withstand test. But the actual test experience shows that the resistors can pass the high current impulse withstand test, with the same piece of the whole arrester resistance high current impulse withstand test are difficult to pass. The article selected five representative resistor production factory and whole arrester as the research object in domestic. The capacity of high current impulse of polymer surge arrester is researched by test. By the test result and experiment, one reason which resulting in less tolerance of large current impact to whole polymer surge arrester is less tolerance of large current impact to the resistor. Its improper use of internal insulation parts and poor quality is another factor. Results also showed best tolerance of the high current that using tube design of the arrester.
