Water balance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Water balance is an important factor influencing the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell ( PEMFC). In this paper, the basic principles and water transport of PEMFC are described. The dehydration and flooding experiments approve the importance of water balance to the performance and longevity of fuel cell. The influence of bipolar plate, gas diffusion layer ( GDL ) , catalyst layer and working parameters to water balance are analyzed, and the methods to regulate the water balance of fuel cell are discussed.
