Abstract
This paper presents a new method to estimate the electrical parameters of an induction motor (IM) fed by Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) using Recursive Least Squares (RLS) method. The estimation model is derived from the dynamic model of the induction machine at standstill. No prior knowledge of the motor parameters is required and four electrical parameters of the IM are simultaneously estimated with single-phase locked-rotor test at only one angular frequency of the stator current. Furthermore, it does not require the generation of a specialized voltage waveform for supplying the motor. And more importantly, the proposed method does not require the use of any mechanical devices or speed measurement sensor; hence, it is suitable for self-commissioning drives. The simulation results which are presented demonstrate the validity and the feasibility of the proposed method.
