Study on the Interaction between Glutathione and Functional Monomers

Abstract
The merits of molecular imprinting material are of specificity, high selectivity and high intensity. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is an important cofactor in the biological processes of metabolism and transportation. To find a suitable functional monomer and the best ratio to prepare GSH molecular imprinting polymer, we prepared mixtures of GSH and four different functional monomers: acrylamine, acrylic acid, ¿- methacrylic acid and 4-vinyl pyredine, with different ratio, respectively. By using ultraviolet - visible absorption spectroscopy the interaction between GSH and functional monomers were studied and the mechanism of interaction was discussed preliminary. GSH and ¿- methacrylic acid on the molar ratio of 1:4 or acrylic acid on the molar ratio of 1:8 displayed stronger interaction because of larger changes in absorption (A) values and maximum absorption wavelength. It suggested that ¿- methacrylic acid or acrylic acid is appropriate functional monomer for GSH molecular imprinting. The optimal molar ratio of GSH and ¿- methacrylic acid is 1:4 and that of GSH and acrylic acid is 1:8, and the interaction between GSH and ¿-Methacrylic acid or acrylic acid is possible contributed by hydrogen bonds and electrostatic attraction.
