A new reason analysis of conflict evidence

The Dempster-Shafer evidence theory (DST) is a useful method for dealing with uncertainty problems. However, counter-intuitive results may be obtained by the classical Dempster rule of combination (DRC) when collected evidences are highly in conflict with each other. This drawback greatly limits the use of DST in real application systems. The earlier researches believed the classical conflict coefficient had done heavily on the improvement of DRC or data model. However, Liu puts forward how to express effectively conflict among evidences. The existing reasons for conflict between evidences are not comprehensive. So, reason for conflict among evidences is analyzed and summarized by the new conflict representation model. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2010 Binary Information Press.
