Effect of curve parameter on side wear of high rail on curved track of Heavy Haul Railway

Abstract
In order to reduce the side wear of high rail on curved track of Heavy Haul Railways, the paper analyzes the effect of curve parameter like rail cant on the wheel/rail geometric interaction. Equivalent taper and roll lateral offset (RLO) are suggested to be used to evaluate the influence of curve parameters on side wear of rail. A detailed study is conducted to analyze the effect of different setting of rail cant, including three alternative cases: the low and high rail cants are 1 : 40, 1 : 20 and the low rail 1 : 20 and the high rail 1 : 40. As compared with the standard rail cant ( 1 : 40), the last option can reduce the RLO by 1.8% and increase the e-quivalent taper by 2. 9%. Reasonable track parameters are proposed according to the calculation result.
