Abstract
This paper presents novel advancements made in FCC catalyst technology at PetroChina: specifically the development of coke selective catalysts suitable for cracking feeds containing large amounts of resid. Petrochemical Research Institute of PetroChina has studied the resid FCC catalyst technology reducing coke yield for many years. Based on the study on the relationship between coke formation and catalyst formulation, the fundamental properties of FCC catalyst for improved coke selectivity were revealed. A novel low-coking LRSY zeolite with moderate acid and higher pore volume and a porous matrix, which retention rate of pore volume is more than 70% after steaming treatment, were developed. Furthermore, a unique and proprietary resid FCC catalyst (LEO-1000) for lower coke was manufactured successfully. Data comparing LEO-1000 to a reference catalyst in both pilot plant and commercial operations confirms that the new catalyst provides a substantial improvement in coke selectivity, and thus improves the profitability of our RFCC operations.
