Calculation and measurement of potential distribution of 1000 kV metal oxide arrester

In view of the new structure of MOA in UHV system, the potential distribution is calculated and studied experimentally. Based on the special structure of MOA, the potential distribution of MOA without shunt capacitor is calculated by the finite element method, and the MOA with actual shunt capacitor is calculated by the circuit method. This calculation results are close to the measured ones. A 2-D axisymmetric model of strut surge arrester using the software ANSYS was established to calculate the potential distribution. Various factors of effects on potential distribution of surge arrester were analyzed, and the voltage sharing measure with the voltage deviation of MOA resistor as objective function was discussed. The potential distribution of MOA resistors under the maximum continuous operating voltage was measured by using the optic-electric measuring system. Compared the measured data with calculated result, a structure scheme with optimal potential distribution was obtained at last.
